California Telehealth Network News

The Latest developments in the statewide FCC Rural Health Care Pilot Program Grant

Telemedicine Survey Released
Deadline Extended: February 22, 2008

As recently announced, The State of California has been awarded a $22.1 million grant over three years to fund the California Telehealth Network (CTN), which will expand access to broadband for health care providers in rural and underserved areas.

Today, the CTN released a survey which will be used to sequence sites for participation.  All interested health care sites need to complete this survey by Feb 22, 2008.  The California Telemedicine and eHealth Center (CTEC), California’s federally-designated Telehealth Resource Center, is a member of the CTN coalition and is disseminating this survey to ensure it is widely available to hospitals and clinics throughout the State.

In the CTN program’s effort to make this survey as widely available as possible, you may receive this notice from multiple groups.  We also encourage you to pass along information about this survey to other California health care organizations that you may be in contact with.

Please see instructions for accessing the survey below.  Please feel free to contact CTEC at (877) 590-8144 or ehealth@calhealth.org should you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Colleagues:

We are writing to you about a potentially exciting opportunity for your healthcare organization to participate in a new statewide telehealth network.  The Federal Communications Commission recently announced its decision to fund the state of California’s proposal to establish a statewide California Telehealth Network.  Under the FCC’s Rural Health Care Pilot Program – with the goal of significantly increasing access to acute, primary and preventive health care in rural America – the FCC will provide California with up to $22.1 million over the next three years to create this network, and is inviting your organization to complete an online survey to indicate your potential interest in participating.  Only organizations that complete this survey will be eligible for participation.

The survey is available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=xGJrwuUx_2fPVpWujjvk6aNw_3d_3d
– and we ask that you complete it by Friday, February 15th.

This survey is open to any healthcare facility in California, and we encourage you to send the above link to your colleagues at other organizations.  Please note that although a preliminary list of potential healthcare facilities was submitted in the original proposal to the FCC, participation in the network is open to all qualifying sites, and the first formal qualifying step is the completion of the online survey.   If your organization is not currently interested in participating, but might like to in the future, we encourage you to complete the survey now.  The project team will begin sequencing sites next month and the project funds will be allocated accordingly – so, although it will be possible to complete the survey in the future, the sooner the project knows of your organization’s interest the better.

Further information about the California Telehealth Network is provided at the beginning of the survey (including links to the original proposal and other information).  Please contact us at ctn@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu or (916) 734-3008 if you have questions while taking the survey.  Thank you!
