Telemedicine Legislation Update

Governor Signs AB 329

In a recent press release, it was announced that Governor Schwarzenegger has signed Assembly Bill 329, sponsored by Assembly member Alan Nakanishi. 

This bill authorizes the Medical Board of California to establish a pilot program to establish statewide chronic disease management best practices in a telemedicine model.  This bill:

§         Authorizes the Medical Board to implement the program by convening a working group

§         Specifies that the program’s purpose shall be to develop methods, using a telemedicine model, of delivering health care to those with chronic diseases and delivering other health information

§         Requires the Medical Board to make recommendations regarding its findings to the Legislature within a specified time frame.
