Current Initiatives

CTEC is committed to developing, expanding, and disseminating its resources to provide telemedicine information and education to health care providers and consumers. CTEC’s current initiatives focus on policy and operational needs that support the use of telehealth.

Telehealth Program Monitoring Data Project

CTEC has convened a panel of national experts to make recommendations on a standardized set of data elements to support telemedicine programs in determining the impact of telemedicine on access to timely health care, operational efficiency and program sustainability.

Limited information is currently available to program administrators to allow regular monitoring and assessment of program performance. Foundations, philanthropies and other funders of telehealth developments currently do not have a standardized set of data that allows comparative aggregate reporting across telemedicine programs. This project will provide programs and funders with a recommended basic set of data for standardized reporting and monitoring of telehealth program performance.

Telehealth Inventory

CTEC has maintained a statewide inventory of telehealth programs for the past five years. With the growing number of new programs and initiatives, CTEC launched a statewide initiative to update the inventory. The inventory provides a source of information for key stakeholders and policy makers, as well as providing an avenue for telehealth programs to easily connect with each other.

Best Practices Compendium

Applying best practices in program development is a key to successful program development and operations. CTEC has been the repository of telehealth best practices in California for over a decade. CTEC has collected information on best practices over the development of hundreds of telehealth sites in California. These best practices and lessons learned are being complied and organized and will soon be available through CTEC.

These best practices are based on real life experiences over many years and are designed to be guides through the creation and development of new telemedicine programs. They are organized around the CTEC Seven Step Program Development Process.
