Commercialization grants encourage commercialization of science, moving technology from discovery to development for eventual delivery to the marketplace. Commercialization grants target research efforts centered on validating the commercial merit of new technologies. This type of research is often referred to as prototype development, proof of principle, and reduction to practice. Funded grants will describe clearly how the scientific and technical work will be coordinated with development of the commercial opportunity. LSDF has allocated up to $750,000 for commercialization grants in each of two competitions in 2011. Individual requests are not to exceed $150,000, with work expected to be completed within one year.
