Agricultural Worker Health and Housing Program

The Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) established the Agricultural Worker Health and Housing Program (AWHHP) in 1999 with a $31 million award from The California Endowment. Through the AWHHP, RCAC allocates loans and grants to partnerships between health and housing organizations that effectively link health programs with affordable housing for agricultural workers, their families and their communities. Under this program, decent, affordable housing is considered the foundation for improved health. The five-year program funds models that exhibit extensive community collaboration and agricultural worker participation.

USDA Rural Development Program

Rural Development is working to eliminate substandard housing from rural America by helping rural people buy, build or rent decent housing. The Rural Development Program provides direct or guaranteed loans, grants, technical assistance, research and educational materials. In accomplishing their mission, USDA Rural Development often works in partnership with state, local and tribal governments, as well as rural businesses, cooperatives and nonprofit agencies.

Rural Development programs are delivered through Utilities Programs, which address rural America's need for basic services such as clean running water, sewers and waste disposal, electricity, and telecommunications; Housing Programs, which address rural America's need for single-family and multi-family housing as well as health facilities, fire and police stations, and other community facilities, and; Business Programs, which provide help to rural areas that need to develop new job opportunities, allowing businesses and cooperatives to remain viable in a changing economy. There are also Community Development Programs that operate special initiatives to demonstrate effective community development techniques and address unique and pressing economic development issues.

California Health Facilities Financing Authority

The California Health Facilities Financing Authority (CHFFA) was established in 1979 and operates pursuant to the California Health Facilities Financing Authority Act in the California Government Code Sections 15430-15462.5.

CHFFA was created to be the State's vehicle for providing financial assistance to public and non-profit health care providers in our State through loans funded by the issuance of tax-exempt bonds. The diverse nature of the facilities funded by CHFFA reflects the changing health care needs of the State. From rural community-based organizations to large multi-hospital systems, CHFFA has financed a wide range of providers and programs throughout California.
